Your Personal Web Site Space At MDC/OA Internet

Every MDC/OA Internet account includes free 10MB of website space to host your own personal web site. Please note that this web space is NOT intended for commercial content.

MDC/OA Internet has an easy to use administration interface for you to manage your website files. The following information details how you can use your web space, and how you can share your website address with your friends and relatives.

Your webspace address is http://webspace.oanet.com/username/, where username is the Login ID as found on your information sheet (e.g. jsmith)

For MDC clients, your webspace address is http://members.moderndigital.net/username/

Maintaining Your Webspace Through the Internet

To log onto your personal webspace, visit http://webspace.oanet.com/admin/.You will be asked for your username and password. Your username is your Login ID as found on your information sheet (e.g. jsmith), and the password is the one associated with that account. This information can found on your information sheet.

You can maintain your webspace using the following buttons

Make Subdirectory Used to create a directory within your webspace. This is useful if you want to organize your website
Go Up One Directory Used to navigate up a directory when you're in a subdirectory. For example, if you're in /internet/files/, clicking this button will bring you to /internet/
Browse Used to select a file to upload. You need to browse for a file before you upload a file
Upload File Used to upload a file after you have browsed for the file. You can only upload one file at a time

Maintaining Your Webspace Through FTP

You can also maintain your webspace through FTP. This will let you get the most out of your webspace and let you manage your files more efficiently. We suggest using WS FTP for your FTPing needs.

You can download WS FTP for free by going to ftp://ftp.ipswitch.com/pub/win32/WS_FTPLE.EXE. Once you have downloaded the installation file, double-click on the file and follow the instructions provided in the program to install it. After this is done, you can go in Start -> Programs -> IpSwitch -> WS FTP to open the program.

Connecting to FTP for the First Time

When you open the program, you'll be presented with a screen like the one of the left. This is the screen where you enter the details for your connection. Follow these steps to create a session:

1.   Click on the New button
2.   Uncheck the "Anonymous" checkbox
3.   Check the "Save Pwd" checkbox
4.   Enter the following information
Profile Name   This can be anything you like, though we strongly suggest using "OA Webspace" in order to easily identify your profile
  Host name/Address   webspace.oanet.com or members.moderndigital.net (MDC clients)
  Host type   Automatic Detect
User ID   This is the first part of the login ID for your dial-up account (example: your login ID is "john@oanet.com", so your user ID would be "john")
Password   This is the password for your dial-up account. The password is case-sensitive, so make sure it's typed in exactly as it's shown on the sheet you received when you signed up
  Account   Leave this blank
  Comment   Leave this blank
5.   Click Apply. At this point, ensure that you are connected to the Internet.
6.   Click OK. You will connect to the FTP.

From now on, you can connect by selecting your OA Webspace profile from the Profile Name drop-down box and clicking on Connect.

Program Layout

The left-hand side of the screen represents your computer. You can change drives by scrolling down and selecting the drive letter you want to go to. You can back up a directory by clicking on the go up one directory arrow.

The right-hand side of the screen represents your webspace. By default, you will be in your own directory, so you won't need to change directories unless you create new directories. Navigation is the same as navigation through the left hand side of the screen.

Commands

ChgDir This lets you type a path to navigate to. This is useful if you know exactly where the files you want are
MkDir This lets you create a directory in the directory you're currently in
View This lets you view files. Note that it will only open them in text format, so it's not recommended that you view anything but small ASCII files with this tool
Exec This lets you execute a program. We don't recommend you use this function to execute programs
Rename This lets you rename the file that is currently selected
Refresh This refreshes the directory contents and displays the current state of the directory
DirInfo This displays information about the directory you're currently in

Transferring Files from Your Computer to Your Webspace
